Tapered roller thrust bearings allow the creation of compact axial systems; they are able to withstand very high axial loads, are insensitive to shocks and are very rigid.
Since they can be dismantled, the types with cage can be installed by mounting the two washers and the cage roller unit separately and easily. Tapered roller thrust bearings are mainly used in rolling mills, in combination with multi-row radial types of cylindrical rollers.
Since double direction tapered roller thrust bearings are normally fitted with a loose fit both on the cylinder neck and in the chock housing, to prevent rotation on the seat, the shaft washer is provided with one or two stop slots, into which a key or something similar may be inserted.
