Tapered roller thrust bearings allow the creation of compact axial systems; they are able to withstand very high axial loads, are insensitive to shocks and are very rigid.

Since they can be dismantled, the types with cage can be installed by mounting the two washers and the cage roller unit separately and easily. Tapered roller thrust bearings are mainly used in rolling mills, in combination with multi-row radial types of cylindrical rollers.

Since double direction tapered roller thrust bearings are normally fitted with a loose fit both on the cylinder neck and in the chock housing, to prevent rotation on the seat, the shaft washer is provided with one or two stop slots into which a key or something similar may be inserted.

There are two types of execution:

EXECUTION EZB.1

This execution with a flat central washer is the most common as it tolerates a slight eccentricity of the shaft with respect to the housing bore, of the order of the internal radial clearance of the radial bearing that accompanies them.

A spacer is placed between the housing washers, proportioned so that the screws of the seals’ covers can be fully tightened; no special spring adjustment is required for the bearing.

EXECUTIONS EZB.2 / EZB.3

These executions have conical tracks on the washers.
Thanks to this they have a greater load capacity than that with the flat central washer and to a certain extent they can also fasten the shaft radially.

Dimensions
The dimensions of the tapered roller thrust bearings have not been unified.


Tolerances
With some exceptions, the bore and inner diameter tolerances of double direction tapered roller thrust bearings are usually according to ISO 199-1979.
The tolerances on height and rotation precision instead differ from normal values.

Upon request, information on the values ​​relating to a specific bearing is given.

Misalignment
The axial tapered roller bearings with flat washers do not allow any misalignment of the shaft with respect to the housing nor any squaring error of the supporting surfaces.

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RINGS

Material: 100Cr6 (UNI 3097 - WNr.1.3505) or 100CrMo7 (WNr.1.3507) full hardened steel depending on the size.
On request they can be built in case-hardening steel for particular applications.

Heat treatment: Stress relieving (machinability annealing), Quenching & tempering.
These treatments will always be carried out guaranteeing SZ0 stabilization (for use of the bearings without expansion of the rings up to temperatures of 150 ° C).

On request these treatments can be carried out ensuring a final stabilization S1 & S2:
SZ1 - For operation without ring expansion up to 200 ° C (suffix SZ1)
SZ2 - For operation without ring expansion up to 250 ° C (suffix SZ2)
Hardness: 59/62 HRc

 

CAGE

Non-full complement tapered roller thrust bearings have a solid brass or pin-type steel cage.

 

TAPERED ROLLERS

The tapered roller thrust bearings have a “logarithmic” profile in the contact between the raceways and the rollers, in order to ensure an optimal distribution of the stresses inside them and increase their duration.

Material: 100Cr6 hardened steel (UNI 3097)

Heat treatment: Stress relieving (machinability annealing), Quenching & tempering.

Hardness: 60/64 HRc

On request they can be built in case-hardening steel for particular applications.
